The Plugable USBC-C100 is a USB-IF certified USB-C to USB-C cable designed to provide the best possible connectivity with all types of USB-C devices, from chargers to docking stations. Because the cable meets or exceeds the USB-IF specifications this cable can be safely used with confidence on any USB-C host/device on the market without concerns about damage being caused by a sub-par cable from an unknown manufacturer.

The cable is electronically marked with an IC (sometimes referred to as an “active cable”) to assist in negotiation of charging rates and USB-C alternate modes like DisplayPort video.

Q: What are some common uses for this cable?
A: The most common scenarios are connecting a USB-C device to a USB-C Power Delivery charger or connecting a USB-C host to a USB-C peripheral such as our UD-ULTCDL Triple Display Docking Station or our USBC-SATA-V Disk Drive Dock.

Q: Can I use this cable for charging my cell phone or tablet?
A: Yes! We’ve test with our Google/LG Nexus 5X and Nokia Lumia 950 and have had good results. A note to users with the Nexus 5X, if your phone does not charge using our cable in combination with your stock Nexus 5X LG charger, the charger may be defective and you should contact LG Support.

Q: What is the USB-IF and why does certification matter?
A: The “USB Implementers Forum, Inc. is a non-profit corporation founded by the group of companies that developed the Universal Serial Bus specification.” The USB-IF creates the standards that have enabled billions of USB devices and hosts to inter-operate and “just work” over the last 20+ years.

USB-IF certified products have passed rigorous testing to ensure that they comply with specifications and perform as advertised. Achieving certification requires higher-grade materials and manufacturing processes to ensure the best possible data integrity, performance, and production consistency which may be lacking in cheaper commodity cables.

Standards-compliance is especially important with USB-C cables given the much higher current available per the USB 3.1 spec. Non-compliant cables can potentially cause damage to your devices if the cable does not behave according to USB specifications.

Q: The cable feels loose when connected to my device. Either movement side to side, or when plugging in or unplugging.
A: The USBC-C100 cable is designed to meet the requirements of the USB-IF and as such it’s connector should be universal for nearly any USB-C device. However, not all USB devices are manufactured to the same standards that the USB-IF has. Normally one should expect when connecting the cable to have a defined “click” when plugging the cable in. The cable should only require medium (“normal”) force to unplug, and the side to side movement should only be a few degrees.
